305 Cleanup, the Miami nonprofit out to pick up 305,000 pieces of litter across the county, holds its first community cleanup with the Rhythm Foundation at the Miami Beach Bandshell. Volunteers meet on the sand behind 73rd Street, between the 72nd and 74th Street lifeguard towers, and work the beach and the shoreline. Once the haul is weighed, the group heads inside for a backstage tour of the Bandshell, the 1961 Norman Giller building on the National Register of Historic Places, followed by a volunteer raffle with concert tickets and museum passes. Cigarette butts go to TerraCycle for recycling and plastics go to The Plastic Fisherman Workshop to become furniture. Gloves, buckets, bags and pickers are provided, and registration requires a waiver.
