Books & Books hosts Dr. Ally, an attorney and educator, for a Banned Books Week family hour built on her picture book We Are Free: Our First Amendment Rights, illustrated by Edel Rodriguez, the Cuban-born artist behind a run of Time covers. She reads the book, talks with kids about what matters to them, and has each one draw a sign finishing the line "If I could use my voice to change one thing, I would..." to take home. She also shares her middle grade book for older kids, Your Freedom, Your Power, then signs copies and takes photos after. The program ties into PEN America's freedom to read campaign.
