Bookleggers Library hosts an erasure poetry workshop and reading built on this school year's most banned books, including The Bluest Eye, A Clockwork Orange, Sold, All Boys Aren't Blue and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Jasmine Respess, the North Miami poet who edits Islandia Journal and founded Penumbra Press, leads the group in blacking out words on those pages to make new poems. Published erasure work like Tracy K. Smith's "Declaration" and Layli Long Soldier's Whereas are the models. Bookleggers has given away donated books across South Florida since 2012 and runs its bookstore out of the Bakehouse Art Complex.
