Kiki: Ballroom Culture, Then & Now Screening & Discussion
Pridelines continues its ballroom film series at O Cinema South Beach with a screening of Kiki, the 2016 documentary that follows a new generation of Black and Latino LGBTQ+ youth in New York City's ballroom scene. It picks up where the series' earlier Paris Is Burning screening left off, tracing the culture from the drag balls of the late 1980s to the Kiki houses of today and how chosen family and self-expression keep evolving. Presented with Hermanos del Sol, the night pairs the film with refreshments and an open conversation afterward. Missing the first screening is no problem, this one stands on its own.
