The Frost Art Museum hosts a panel on how archives and primary sources shape the way Cuban modernism gets written and shown. Elizabeth T. Goizueta, Cristina Figueroa Vives, and Maria Martinez-Canas take the exhibition Modern Cuban Painters: From Havana to New York Revisited as their starting point, tracing the artistic traffic between the two cities in the 1940s. Much of it runs through the Jose Gomez Sicre Visual Archive, named for the Cuban critic who organized the Museum of Modern Art's Modern Cuban Painters show in 1944. The talk turns on the case studies where private papers complicate the accepted story.
